Four years ago, in the summer, I learned that we had inherited a house in the country. I had never wished to own a house and certainly not in the country. We went to look at it was all the same. A beekeeper lived there on his own and the house was surrounded by figures of people, bears and penguins that he had carved himself. The idyllic green surroundings were a far cry from the New York penthouse I had seen myself living in back in my early twenties. After a sleepless test night in the caravan, we set ourselves to the task of converting the building – together with architect, whom we had never met before. What came about in the following two years through our collaboration with Käferstein Meister Architekten is a house that offers our family and the many guests we welcome there a change of perspective. Instead of being in the midst of the city, we can take a step back and see things from a distance. Rather than focussing on doing, we concentrate on being.
